Wow, I've never seen the Mugen S2k on Best Motoring. I'm surprised it did so well, it kept up on the straight with the M3!
yeah..try that in real life with those Mugen parts. By the end of 3rd gear the M3 will be several cars ahead. I like Best Motoring for what it is..entertainment.
The Z was ahead the whole time till they (M3,M5) finally floored it. A Mugen S2K would never keep up with a M3 (SMG or not) in 4th gear, sorry.

Here's the secret: NZ coilovers and N1 ECU.
How much is that intake, header, exhaust and ECu good for? The M3 has 341BHP and nearly double the torque. You can put 3 of those n1 ECUs in the S but it would get eaten alive.
The coilovers have no effect since the exiting speed from the corner before the straight was identical, so no effect on top speed on the end of the straight.

depends on what kind of track layout you're running in. The intake/header/exhaust/ecu combo might be good for 15 extra hp, but that's negligible compared to the M3's hp. The extra goodies that make the Mugen S what is: ECU and coilovers. If the track is laid out with long straights, there's no question that the M3 takes advantage. But in a tighter track with more turns than straights, a car with an optimized suspension will either keep up or surpass a higher-hp car. HP is only as good as the traction that can be maintained. In Dubai, perhaps the racetracks out there may favor a higher-hp car. The tracks I have been at in Texas are a bit tighter. But as long as you can carry more speed as required with momentum cars like the S2000, they can hold their own.

I'm not bashing the M3 or anything like that. I had one with much more hp and torque, but I am truly amazed at what the suspension work in the S2000 has done for it on the track. I've tracked cars since 1999, so I do speak from some experience.

Now an M3 with an optimized race suspension vs. the Mugen S2000, that's a whole different ballpark...

entertaining indeed!

With equal drivers, the results should've been:
1/2) M3 vs. Mugen S
3) Z
4) M5
5) RX8

M5's too heavy, the Z is too heavy (and difficult to adjust suspension-wise). The M3 and the S2000 are perfect for the track!
