Its ART!
Was it an OEM-4,10 gearset?
How did the ring gear look?
And yeah.. how / what happened?
(the bearing caps failed?)

This is from my friend's car, and here is what happened:

When the mechanic was doing whatever he was doing in my car, he did something to make the diff fail. It was nothing gradual- simply instant. Looks like I will have to eat this one up....
Bottom line.. take your car to a place that you can trust for an alignment, and watch them during the whole process.

How does something like that happen?
when you launch at over 6k RPM all the time by slipping the clutch.... thats what the mechanic told me when he saw mine looking like that just a couple of months ago..
Good time for a 4.57R from Ricks2k

I'm wondering what his symptoms were leading up to that...just so I could know for myself
If it happens in a one time incident, which would only happen if you have a serious allignment, or suspension problem or you launched at very high RPMs or miss shift forcing it to 2nd instead of 4th... the car would just not move from its place.
If it happens over a long period (which happened with me), you start hearing these grinding noises from the back of the car like there is something metal like stuck somewhere in the back of the car thats not letting your wheels roll. The noise increases as you go faster. and the car doesn't accelarates that fast.
When you feel something like this is happening with you.. just go for a differential fluid change.. and they will let you know if something is broken because they'll see the pieces of it in the drained fluid.
what exactly could be wrong w/ alignment or the suspension to cause this?
i understand how a crazy hard misshift could apply more than enough pressure.. but dont understand how susp/align could do this
riley

Time to take the dealership to small claims. Your pal left his car with them in working order and they return it to him all busted up and try to blame his driving habits of which they have no proof? It's clear the tech dumped the clutch at a high rpm at least once.
