Backspacing is essentially the opposite of offset, as its the distance from the mounting surface to the inside lip of the wheel. His setup is the same as running a 9 +25 with a 215 or a 225 in the rear, but he can afford to run a little stretch (285 on 11.5 is a small stretch) cause they're so wide, without sacrificing performance. CCW's philosophy is sort of: "Why go aggressive and not go wide?"
Truthfully, 11.5 +57 is really not too bad as long as you're not trying to run 305's or something.
My buddy has a set of polished classics in 11.5 that i test fit on my car and they are way lighter than a stock ap1 wheel with tire and all i couldnt believe it
