I emailed the designer about his hobby and etc. Here is his response:

I live in Phoenix, AZ, and boy does it get hot!!!!! A typical mid-level animators salary is in the 50-75 k a year range, I believe (although it may be more if you live in CA). It's loooong hours of work but you usually love what your doing. It can take up to 2 weeks to just make a model to animate so it dependes on the complexity of the scene you want to do.
