The F40 driver probably wanted the EG driver to pass. Think about it. The F40's rear bumper cover is worth more than the whole EG. I'd much rather not have a Civic drive up into the rear of my F40.
In all honesty, I'm pretty impressed to even see an F40 on the track (much more considering that it seems to be an open HPDE event).
