Here's a few pics from sunny Florida. And not to worry, I took a towel so she wouldn't get sand in/on her!

Nice pictures, but what is that black thing on top of your car in all those pictures?

You're in Florida and you've got the top up?

WTF is going on here?

You should have your Florida citizenship revoked!!!

D'oh! You caught me! Those pictures were actually taken in late December. Don't let the sun fool you...that day was about 35 degrees outside and really frickin' windy. This is northwest Florida after all (aka Lower Alabama, aka Redneck Riviera), not Miami . It was sunny though, and the car had been mine for about 2 days, so it made for some nice photo ops.

Since my folks have a place on the opposite side of the state (St. Augustine) I know it can get pretty cold in December so I guess we can let you off the hook this time!

I've been on the beaches of the west coast of the state once in Sarasota and I must say the sand was fantastic -- white and powdery. I've heard that the sand up your way is the best in the state (if not the country) and your pics seem to support that claim.

Are you located anywhere near Destin? That's supposed to have the ultimate white sand beach. Man, this is making me really envious!!!

Since Tedow isn't here at the moment I'll give you an answer. Ft. Walton where Tedow lives is right next to Destin. Some of the nicest sand you'll see anywhere is between FWB & Destin. For the most part the sand from Ft Morgan, AL. to Panama City, FL. is pretty much the same. It's so white that in the sunshine a "glow" comes off of it. What makes Destin the best is not so much the powdery white sand but having that sand combined with the clear multi-colored Gulf of Mexico in that area. If you've never been there it's a must see.

CG and S2000 Driver, y'all are quite correct. The sand here is (arguably) the best in the world...the Australians don't like to hear that , but having been there to visit, I don't think the Gold Coast can compete with the Emerald Coast. And we don't have Great White Sharks!. In fact, the first time I went to the beach for volleyball in the summer, the *front* of my neck got sunburned...I couldn't understand what the heck was going on. Then it hit me...the sun was reflecting off the sand! Sheesh. Anyway, thanks for the compliments (and letting me off the hook). CG, I'll see you Sunday with another rental Miata...this time with wider tires .

Tedow and CG,

You two are very fortunate to be living in such a beautiful area. I must see these beaches for myself!

Sounds like next time I go to visit my folks in St. Augustine a road tip is in order with my Sebring Convertible rental car (this is my standard Florida rental car -- I know, I know -- but hey when you're a tourist in Florida, what the hell, why not act like a tourist!).

Be prepared for some questions coming from me on the local sites I should check out. Maybe if I think about this enough it'll help me get through this awful winter here in New England!
