I'm sure back pressure(more bends) is better for F/I,(GTR) but I would assume it does have to do with adequate space, and regulations with passing smog etc.. less back pressure(less bends) doesn't always mean more power.
if you are running F/I you never want any back pressure, same goes for N/A(back pressure =/= scavenging effect)
i'll give you this one when you talking about running bends for emission, dodge does that to their SRT-4 but the world seems to look pass that because there's way to pass smog while sustain efficiency
