Default Ever wonder what happens when you flip one?

I had always wondered, so here is what happened as well as photo's of the car afterwards. Just lucky to be alive I suppose, but sad about the car of course. Posting link first for those who don't care about how it happened.

Crash photo's and one of my head.

Anyhow, on May 3rd (Tuesday) at 2:30ish AM I was in a car accident I was lucky to walk away from.

I was coming back from a trip out of town and had travelled some 640 miles of a trip and only 60 miles from home. I had
stopped and gotten gas only 6.5 miles prior to all this, was wide awake, etc.

I had passed a semi-truck and moving from the left lane to the right. I saw a deer about 40-50 feet I'd estimate pop up
in front of me which was dead center over the center line. I tried to use the shoulder and go around it, but lost control
of my car which was going appoximately 75-80mph. The rear of the car started to slide to the left a bit so I slid into
the ditch on the side of the road at about a 45 degree angle. Later found out that the semi reported the accident, but
must've kept on driving.

I was completely awake and lucid for the entire episode, although I didn't see much of anything as car lost it's power on
the initial impact. From the police report, I flipped it end over end (nose to tail) two or three times with a roll tossed
in for good measure, landed upside down in the ditch facing west (was heading east). I actually said to myself at some point
in the crash that this was how I was going to die. I hit my head once on the roof of the car, tried curling up into a ball,
and hit it again. Those are the only two times I felt anything while I heard the car impacting the entire time.

The car came to a stop and I guess I went into survival mode. I undid my seatbelt and was pretty much halfway on the ground
already since the roof was collapsed a great deal. I looked around, saw the only bit of light (the area was heavily wooded
with no outside light aside from what the stars were providing with moon somewhere) was coming from drivers side window. I
barely squeezed through the hole there and got out between it and the side of the ditch. I stood up, at that point realizing
I had a ton of blood on me from head to foot. I reached up and felt my head, feeling that I had a huge part of it flopped
over. Immediately I took off my shirt, pushed up the part of it that was folded down and applied as much pressure as I could
hoping to limit the blood loss. I knew I needed help, so I felt my pocket where I kept my cell phone. It wasn't there and I
remembered I had it between my legs as that's where I kept it when it wasn't in my pocket. I looked inside the window and
thankfully I saw the service light was flashing, so I grabbed it and called 911.

At that point, I decided I needed to get someone to stop in case of me losing consciousness or whatever. The first three
trucks passed right on by and who knows, might've not seen me since it was so dark. Finally, the fourth or fifth pickup truck
stopped and whatnot. He was able to tell me at what mile marker it was exactly so I could relay that info to the 911 dispatcher
as I didn't know how far past the last exit I was exactly.

I eventually called my mother when I knew help was on the way. Due to location, the police arrived in about 10mins with the
ambulance at about 20-25mins.

To not bore you all with the details, they asked me a bunch of questions, what happened, etc. They all seemed in a bit of shock
that I was so very lucid and aware of what had happened and what was going on. At the hospital, they did their thing and I ended
up with 28 staples which you can see in one of the photo's. The only injuries aside from that I sustained were cuts on my left
arm. I had no glass anywhere in any of them which they were in amazement about since they said they've never seen that. I still
have no bruises you can see, had a CT scan done, all is good there, etc.

I was done with the surgery and whatnot at 6:30am and left at 8am when my father arrived to pick me up. Went from there to see
the car and that's the rest of the photo's. The guy who towed the car came out to see me since he heard I was there and didn't
believe I was up and walking around. Basically said he couldn't believe that I was up and walking around, since he's been doing
this for several years and was sure whoever was in the car was dead.

I don't know why things happen, I'll maybe figure that out in time. 15 secs spent here or there, not passing a car on the inside,
a bit longer in a restroom, in line buying gas, whatever and this would've never happened. It's all very strange and even odder
when you know from everyone who saw the car, accident, everything, etc saying you should've died. At the very least, the head
impact should've caused me to lose consciousness, which in turn I would've bled to death hanging upside down in the car. The
head laceration was caused by pressure as the bar it hit against impacted with the ground at least twice and should've broken my
neck. I'm so very lucky to have walked away from this it's not even funny with as little as I did. All things considered, I'm
shocked that I still have a place here on the planet as the odds of wrecking a convertible like I did and surviving I'm told are
quite low.

Anyhow, that's that and I'm providing a link to the photo's. They are somewhat graphic with blood on the car, the spot where my
head hit, pic of my head, etc. Hopefully you aren't bored to death by now, so sorry if that's the case. Overall, I'm fine and
just very sore at this point from my waist to my neck.

Seriously...you are very lucky to walk away from an accident like. Especially in an s2000. Considering how small our cars are, I'm very surprise it held up so well...except for the windshield, !

Just glad that your ok, that's the most important thing.

wow, when did this happen?

from the looks of the car, i probably would have assumed death myself. you are very lucky to be alive, don't know what made you register today and post this, but you are very fortunate to be doing so.
actually, finding the damn phone and maintaining conciousness was the key to your survival i think. as the damn trucker apparently did not provide adaquate info for your rescue.

i see deer on the road as well, and i have always thought to myself if he is in my path, and i have only a split second to see if i have to take more evasive action vs. having enough time to just dodge the deer, i think i would just ram into it.

sorry for your accident and have a good recovery.

Those are some sobering pictures. I had a pretty bad wreck myself a few years back in a convertible and got a very similar gash on my head. 30 staples and 12 stitches.

Someone was def watching over you that night and its incredible you were able to pull yourself from that wreck. Im glad that you are doing well enough to share your story and I wish you a speedy recovery. I still cant believe that first truck driver just passed you by.

WOW! I'm glad you made it out of the accident alive. How bad was the actual bleeding and how deep was your cut?
