That was one educating animation,, i hate when ppl start talking about the eng as if you can use only one cylinder or you have the choise of using all 4 for powerrRRRR!!!. AAH!

This vid is simple and educating

Great Job!

I'm sitting here at work using Inventor and something made me think of this comment. For the timing chain you could simply model one individual link and then create an assembly of 100 links (or however many there actually are). In reality the timing chain isn't one component, but actually several smaller components linked together. A hole in one link would be constrained to one of the holes of the next link, and so on... you can add in some angular constraints to make the chain change directions and wrap around the various gears. Then place this (sub)assembly into your overall motor assembly.

Or import each indivual link into 3D studio and again give each link constraints relative to the next. So, when one link of the chain moves, the one behind it follows in its path. It should allow you to animate the chain and have it snake it's way through the gears.

At least in my head that makes sense. Obviously easier said then done.

Yes i had contemplated making the timping chain is that way, but in the end i ran out of time so i did not attempt. But if i have my way i will at some point have as close to possible F20c. Also making this motor taught me alot about the way our motor works. One question though i know the cylinders 1 and 4 are at tdc at the same time..... but so they fire at the same time or is one firing while the other is about to pullin a fresh air fuel mixture?

My favorite part was the screen saver coming on. Second favorite part was the music. If the animation had been going 50% faster it would have been super cool. Just slamming everything together really quick.
