She was very understanding in the fact that living in Alaska for the past three years led to very little "car stuff" whether it be participating in track days, auto cross, or buying parts. We did get to go on a lot of scenic drives though. I just moved to New Mexico and hit the track for the first time in 3+ years last weekend.

your wife > my girlfriend. For my Bday last Sept, she got me the CR center console from hardtopguy. I thought it was the greatest gift I ever opened, up until she says, "That's the last car gift you get, I spent 400 bucks on a piece of plastic!" Anddddd that was the end of that.
