oh wow, I thought at most you were using a handheld 3mp camera or something. I can't believe how grainy they are.

Artistically (angles/ideas), they look great, it's the camera that's holding you back.

i think it is the settings on this camera....i actually just got it two days ago and i'm constantly trying to mess with the manual functions. what would eliminate the gain?

Shoot at a lower ISO.

Turn the ISO as low as it will go. For the garage shots, or any shots done in low light, use a tripod. I would take some shots in the auto or preset modes too, until you get better with the manual functions.

canon has lots of manual controls. set it to fully manual, change your iso to 50, use a 5 or 10 sec shutter speed with the lowest aperture you can set on there, and also use a 2 second timer along with a tripod. that itself will make the pics look waaaaaaaaaaaay better.

If you want to take some nice pictures, you need a DSLR.

i'm getting a tripod for day two. I am switching out the SD1000 for a SD850, its still a point and shoot, but comparing the two the 850 has A LOT better lens and more features to work with. I never realized the complexity of photography until i got to talk to someone more experienced about my photos. Thanks again for comments.
