We actually quit promoting and selling J's products quite some time ago. Our focus shifted to Top Secret because of strategic reasons. Bulletproof has always prided itself on only selling the highest quality products. There were numerous Top Secret products that were comparable to J's (single outlet exhaust, hood, etc). Of these products, Top secret has produced a lighter exhaust, a better thought out and constructed hood, etc. One of the other prime reasons was differences in quality and reputation/prestige. J's is a very small company with (what I've heard from various accounts) as inconsistent quality. Top Secret is a bit more reputable, and experienced.

While I do not have all of the answers, I had made the decision to switch Bulletproof's focus from J's to Top Secret because of a variety of factors as shortly illustrated above. After receiving this shipment, I feel that I made the right choice. However, others may not. J's and other products that Bulletproof chooses to not sell are readily available through other merchants. All I look forward to is the continuing satisfaction that Bulletproof has never sold a sub-par product in it's history. Our advice and recommendations should be as valuable as our price savings, imo.

Lastly: The Amuse hood is a different story all together. At twice the price of either hood, it's not comparable. The Amuse hood is built for weight savings and weight savings only. I do not consider it a street hood, and would not compare it to either J's or Top Secret.

Wow, cool stuff Ben!

The dual Amuse's design is interesting - the front half of it looks exactly like the stock exhaust. The resonance chamber appears to be of the same size and shape, and there's even the little 90 degree "dead end". Contrast this to the R1 (got one sitting in my living room at the moment), which uses a cylindrical resonance chamber resembling one of the end mufflers. Guess this proves once again the factory did the front half right from a noise/performance perspective. Hard to say if the 4hp is lost there or in the bends it makes at the split. It'll be interesting to compare the sound between the dual and single at the track...

And what's with that 5lb. thing? It may be light, but titanium is still heavier than air. How do they expect it to stay off the ground without hangers?

Randy,

I've been thinking the same thing about that vent for the past few months. While it is not a big deal, it would be pretty cool if they reversed the vent for the US market. The reality is that until US sales pick up, it probably wont be a priority for Top Secret. I highly doubt it does much of anything anyway, since I've seen numerous S2000 race cars in Japan (not one of which had a vent there). I'll continue to be in contact with them on the issue however.

The Mugen hood is beautiful as well. I would have been interested in that hood for my car, if only it didnt have the hump in the front. Now, after seeing the Top Secret hood in person, aside from the absence of the hump, I still like the TS looks better than the Mugen. I just love how the vents are recessed and dont bump out of the hood. Then again, nothing compares to the production quality of Mugen. Prepreg production with autoclaves are big bucks for small run items...

jzr,

Yeah, I was thinking about you today as I drove my car. I'd like to compare our Amuse exhausts at the next track event we run together.

Yes, the dual is more noise sensitive in design than the single R1, which is why it utilizes a good deal of factory specs (aside from the build in full titanium).

Haha...yeah, that Top Secret Ti exhaust makes the Amuse seem like a tank. It might just be too light, if thats possible...

The Mugen header is beatiful. Is it true that the Mugen exhaust has 0 hp gains?
