Got Boost? Vortech Unleashed!!!
Before I begin please ask questions and throw out advice!!
Ok well my dyno tuning went good and bad. We did manage to get the fuel curve looking more like a line and not so lean or rich in places. The problem is without that map controller I get some weird drop off in power right at 6k and then the power comes back at 7.5k. We though spark plugs but as soon as I hooked the map controller back up the power loss went away. must have been some weird thing the timing controller was doing. Which is weird since the two never meet.
Mike you said you tuned your fuel curve in what order do you have the VAFC hooked up. Mine in order goes
firewall
VAFC
Vortech Devices
ECU
With this setup the fuel curve couldn't be budged no matter what we did to the VAFC.
With the Vortech map control removed we were able to get the curve adjusted via the VAFC but had a nasty power drop in the mid range due to some kind of issue.
See dyno below to see the nasty drop. I am so confused .
P.S. the 292 was with no A/F tuning but we did drop VTEC down to 5300. I will post it below the crazy crap dyno.
Dyno using VAFC and no vortech map controller 12:1 FMU
Best dyno of 292

Looks sweet. Do you have any plans to use smaller pully and bypass valve to increase lower rpm torque?.. not that your figures look bad right now.
Have you driven a comptech unit before? how does it compare? I hope this hasn't been answered yet.. i have tried to keep up with the thread

Smaller pulley is a maybe but not till I get the most of the existing pulley. The kit comes with a bypass valve.
Nope never driven a comptech unit before.
There is a good chance I will be at the dragon but I can confirm anything yet.

Hey Troup... not for nothing but even though the air fuel graph on the bottom sheet looks like it's all over the place it really isn't. The scale is a lot closer than on the top one. You really didn't need to do any tuning. You never went lower than 12.3 or higher than 13.6. You're pretty much right in the sweet spot thw whole time. The FMU is pretty good with regard to keeping up the fuel delivery as you increase the boost. As for the drop in the curves, were you monitoring manifold pressure during the test? Did it drop? Have you checked the belt? Just some thoughts.

Yea I didnt know much about A/F when I started this but I was told that 13.6 was pretty lean and I was a little richer than neccecary from 8k on.
I think im going to just leave the VAFC in for the Movement of VTEC down to 5300 and to hell with the Air Fuel.
Unfortunatly we were not monitoring manifold pressure at that time. I dont think the belt was slipping because the power did come back at around 7500 RPM's and I dont know that the belt would slip and then catch again at an even higher RPM. I could be wrong as it totally perplexed me and the tuner. The belt did feel tight at the time as well. Also as soon as I hooked the map controller back in the problem dissapeared.
Im not to worried its just a lot of wasted money on tuning. I just need to get the car put back together and call it a finished project.
Oh yea I noticed that scale difference to but not till I left the shop.

Brian, So with the vortech kit installed you were not able to adjust the air/fuel ratio at all? So the VAFC is pretty much useless w/ the vortec except for the fact that you can lower vtec range? I just bought a unit and was hoping for a good amount of power gain and smoothing out the rough spots.

I should have mine installed and tuned soon.
