There was and is a European "spark plug recall". If your car didn't have the new plugs and the new torque setting, then one of them could have gotten loose and caused the failure.
There was and is also a European "oil jet bolt recall" to change them over to a new, improved bolt to keep the pistons cooler and better lubricated.
I suppose it is possible that without these recalls done, your car may have been already damaged to some extent and the addition of a S/C could have made things worse. Your new engine should have both the new plugs and oil jet bolts. Your Honda dealer can check out your engine when and if you decide to put the S/C back on. Just don't tell them that's why you want it checked.

ps. Bomba, since this is getting a bit off the topic of this thread, you should start a new one in "S2000 talk" or "under the hood" (if it's technical), when you get further information.

I solved the S10 problem - faulty MAP clamp box from Vortech. Then the S14 problem - ended up as a faulty knock sensor which the garage had damaged when they did the oil bolt recall and changed my sump to the Mugen one with the oil drain added for the Vortech. They have to remove the starter motor to take off the gearbox and managed to break the sensor.
I am currently fitting a Greddy E-manage set-up to replace the MAP unit and the V-AFC. Hope to have this running really soon!
