Talking got bored after school...

I just got started and have welded a flange. Yes I know the welds are crappy , but I can't do much better on a scratch start welder w/o remote current control. Plus I haven't welded in almost half a year. Hopefully they should look better as I progress. I should be done by friday at the latest since I can only work on it after class and work.

Used a mild steel flange and 304L Stainless tube so I had to use 309L filler. 309L comes out such a nice color

haha thanks. well I'm happy with them, but of course I have to set a higher standard for myself. I finished the other side. The flange was a lot thicker and the gap between the two was a lot bigger so I had to turn up the amperage a lil. It ended up gretty good but doesn't look as neat as the other piece because it's harder to "walk the cup" across the bigger gap.

by the way making this little welding table is making things considerably easier! All I used was an old corner table, two small steel bars for spacers, and a large 1" thick aluminum plate that I got for $10.

I was lucky and found a couple of AP2 OEM exhausts. Thanks Vu and Allan! I wonder why Honda switched to the stamped Helmholtz resonator? The OEM single section is good stuff. 2 3/8" Stainless Mandrel Bent tubing, Helmholtz resonator to cut drone, and a nice high flowing oval resonator. I haven't found a better street setup yet. Even with a 2 3/8" test pipe it's quiet at idle and cruise, has no drone, but screams when you step on it and really makes VTEC enjoyable.

I got the part that's being welded nice and cleaned up. I ended up cleaning the rest of the visible parts to make everything look nicer. I can't stress cleaning before welding enough. The long piece that I welded above which is 2.5" wide will slip right over the OEM 2 3/8" and the flange will be right after the subframe. I'm going clean up since it's 9:21 but more to come tomorrow!

enjoy

Here's a tip if you need to bend Stainless Steel hangers. Because of 304L's high Rockwell hardness it's much easier to bend 3/8" rod on a vise with a hammer if you make some relief cuts first. Because so little is taken off I've never had a problem with them coming apart.
