Side strakes pointless? Not unless it's aesthetically pleasing to the person that has them on their car. It's the same question that could be asked to many people that install track wings or roll bars and they don't even track their car. To stretch the point, the same could be asked to those that buy 9.5" width rims and mount 215 tires on them. It's all personal preference.
