I disagree with the others about the seatbelt ticket. SU**s rocks for anyone to ever get a seatbelt ticket. It's your choice and should NOT be the law. Here's the thing most people should consider... Orwell's 1984 would never happen with the flip of a switch. It would occur with a little erosion of rights here, a little boost of "protectionism" there. (Like giving up some search and seizure rights to be safe from all those terrorists.)

So, in the early years, most states like mine said the seatbelt law being enacted would NOT allow a driver to be pulled over and ticketed JUST for not wearing a seatbelt (it could only be added to another ticket like speeding that was the cause of being pulled over). A few years later, this state and many others have now totally forgotten that "pledge". In fact most states recently conducted a "click it or ticket" campaign where they pull you over and ticket you for not wearing a seatbelt ONLY.

So, where does this go from here? Anyone think insurance companies will follow suit about 10 years or so from now? How'd you like your medical insurance amount to NOT cover your injuries because you forgot ONE TIME to click in during your rush to the hospital? It will happen eventually... Insurance companies will stop paying for complete coverage if you weren't wearing your seltbelt.

While it's your choice to be safe or not, Insurance companies and big brother will continue to find ways to use something as simple as "protecting your fellow man" to PROFIT or better their power base. NO ONE should support laws that FORCE others to act in "their best interests". There is LITTLE benefit or need for YOU to make your fellow man wear a selt belt. The BS about "higher insurance rates" is a continuing insurance propaganda war. Did anyone get LOWER rates now that everyone is legally required to wear a seat belt? NO! And will they actually reduce cost in the future when they start denying claims? YES! And will they lower rates then??? What do *YOU* think?

Chandler. although I agree that it's a choice, it's a greedy choice and hence mandating it is not a bad idea. I mean, the amount of recourses that automobile accidents without belts vs. with belts pull cost society a lot of money and pain and suffering. Considering that a little seatbelt could prevent head injurys, orthopedic injuries, soft tissue and organ injury.....then you save ICU time, hospital time, rehab time...which could be pooled to help others with problems that could not have been helped. Imagine the same nurses, and doctors and ancillary staff at hospitals not having to take care of this person whose injuries were lessened or null because of a strap. This man/woman power could take care of cancer patients, children, etc. There are down sides to every rule or law, but we all should weigh the factors.

Well, I wasn't going to stoop to insulting your family so I figured I'd just stick to the topic at hand. It shows a lack or resourcefulness and smacks of an inability to take a joke.

That said, I just couldn't resist (yet again). A bit of friendly ribbing usually doesn't hurt. Perhaps you need to lighten up a bit.

Perhaps if I posted pics of my '98 Accord with 14" wheels and nearly worn-out Michelin Alpins it would give you a chance to rib me and perhaps feel a bit better about your own ruined car...? How would that be?

concerning the seatbelt deal: When it comes to my life, I'm all about self-preservation. I wear my sealbelt like I wear underwear: all the time! I really could care less if it's law or not; it has no effect on my morals. If you feel it's your "freedom to choose" your fatality, more power to me. I don't pity those that don't wear seatbelts for their own safely, I think it's tragic you don't value your life.

Another thing to consider regarding seatbelts: If you die, that's your choice/fault but chances are the other person's insurance company (or them personally) are going to have to pay even more for "killing" you. Fatal accidents are more costly than non-fatal accidents. So, while some argue that it doesn't affect anyone else, the fact is that potentially it does, both financially and mentally (imagine them having to live with the "fact" that they killed someone).
