Believe it or not...people get sponsord for this race.... All they need to do is provide there cars sometimes...and they get the entrance fee paid for.

The driver provides the car as a blank canvas. The advertiser pays the driver of the car the entrance fee to display the sponsor's stickers on the car. The driver drives the car in a rally that gets alot of coverage from places like this site. The advertiser's product reaches a large audience by way of media coverage and pictures on the internet, etc...

I think there are official sponsors for the rally, which is why you see the same stickers on every car. It's kinda like if you enter you are required to put the stickers on your car if you want to run. I remember the Jackass episode where they ran the Gumball across Europe and they were given a bunch of stickers to put on their cars.

 

The "Mischief" series has like two gumball rallies one in europe and one in the states. Those guys are crazy drivers.

 

There is also Ultimate Rally which, unless I'm wrong, is an event similar to, or a spin-off of, Gumball 3000.
