Default Handmade All Metal Hardtop

Im looking for some feed back as i am about to start making a all metal removable hardtop for my S. It will use the factory back glass with defrost ( so if it replacing a ripped soft top the window is free ) I was thinking of a Lotus Elise style or a Ferrari 288 style with a verticle back window. The glass would be right behind the roll hoops and the side angled parts would go onto the body to about where the trunk starts like the rest of the hardtops do. Like this one. Let me know what you all think and suggest.

Interesting, any concept sketches or drawings. Dimensions, estimated weight, or cost? It will be good to see a new style apart from the oem and the two after market ones.

I think you should do it. If it ends up looking bad just don't use it, and if it comes out awesome you have a one of a kind handmade hardtop for the S

I figured if it comes out nice then maybe some one could make a mold off of it and reproduce it in fiberglass or what not. As far as the weight goes the first one might be a little heavier than it should as i am going to use the front edge and both side frame parts off of a soft top frame i am using to start with. This way it will have a factory fit across the front and it will use the factory seals and have a factory fit along the side glass as well. But it should not be much more if any than an OEM since it will have less glass.

Will an all metal hardtop be dangerous in an event of a roll?

Not any more than an OEM or Fiberglass.
