Well, now that I have a hardtop, I need somewhere to put the thing seeing as I still intend to enjoy the summer topless when I get the chance ( ooo-eeer )
I found some plans online (thanks BADS2K) for a homemade version out of PVC piping. It is a great alternative to the rip off $700 for the Honda OEM stand which I wasnt about to buy again. I say again, because when I moved here from the UK I had an OEM stand and cover that I sold from my UK car. I didnt expect to own another S, let alone one with a hardtop!).
Anyway, plans in hand, I decided that I could improve upon the design. Always customizing something I guess!
I decided to increase the piping diameter to 2" and include some side arms for extra support and rigidity as well as some wheels so I can move the thing around when I need to!
This is the end result:
The feet with the wheels added:
Instead of using the glue, I used self tapping screws on all joints. This I believe is stronger and also allows me to dismantle the stand should I need to in the future. (and no, there are no screws in contact with the paintwork!)
Finally, the end of the arms are removable. You can take them off for placement of the hardtop and then attach them to hold the hardtop on the stand afterwards.
All in all this is a very secure and rigid setup and I even impressed myself (and the neighbours who wondered what on earth I was making!)
I have a couple of parts going to paint shortly, so this will probably get broken down and given a couple of coats of silverstone to match the car (and the hardtop!)
