Thanks for your comments. If I were an entremanure I might consider marketing it but I'm happy to share. I'll leave the owner/inventor/marketing to guys like Mingster, Muz, etc.

If you have the floor space, you are lucky (and that floor space cost you waaaay more than a buck to have built it). Like most people, my garage space is at a premium and this winch serves as a 1 person hardtop handler and space saving storage system. It has 4 separate ropes holding it up. If 1 breaks, it'll still stay up but this is unlikely to happen as I picked rope that has more than the strength to hold up 50# per strand. Could it happen? Of course it could but if I let every fear and paranoia take a place of prominence in my mind, I don't think I'd drive this car every day through the kinds of winter we get here. Hell, I don't think I'd even drive it the rest of the year for fear of getting into an accident (and these are far more likely to happen than my hardtop falling down from my ceiling).
Oh wait! Some of you guys in fact do NOT drive this car if it looks like rain.

Wow! That's exactly the kind of pully hoist I envisioned making if I decide to get the hardtop.

I'm still debating getting the HT. OK, this rig makes it a one-man job, but how hard/easy is it to put on / take off?

Is visibility with the HT significantly better than with the soft top up?

Not bad, Xviper. I like your ability to circumvent the financial cornholing Honda would give you for the 'official' HT stand. There are few things in this world a trip to Home Depot will not fix!

How much $ do you figure you have in that thing?
