I went to Vegas over the weekend, this is how fast...

Back in '75 my future bride and I were on our way out to West Texas late one night when Mr. Coors and I decided to open my 280Z a little. I didn't see the red lights come on until I was well on the way to 120. Well, to make a long story short, I got a ticket for 99 in a 55. (That's right boys and girls, the interstates had a 55 limit back in the dark ages of the energy crisis.) The good trooper said it was late and near the end of his shift, he was tired, and if he cited me for over 100, he'd have to take me in. I think that was the first and last time that I ever thanked an officer for giving me a ticket.
So, at least in Texas in 1975, you could be arrested and put in jail for excessive speed. My cool and collected future bride probably would have slept through the whole thing if she hadn't been jarred awake by my rapid braking. I think that's the fastest I ever drove that particular car.
