This car won't be going into production anytime soon.
When Toyota/Lexus decides to put the breaks on a project they don't go public with an announcment like Honda/Acura did with the NSX successor.

What's all the talk about Supras?
From what I understood a couple years back, the next Supra/Toyota prototype, was supposed to be this:

The Lexus pictured here looks quite similar to the Lexus LF-A prototype from a year or so ago:

All of that is speculation of course, but unless you are involved with the development of this particular car with Toyota/Lexus I fail to see why you're the authority on what is and isn't intended to be a replacement for what car, or why we're even arguing about it. You may not agree that this is being developed as a next gen Supra, but to act like it's crazy and out of all reason to think that is the case isn't necessary.
As for the project being dead, I wouldn't be surprised if new life was given to it after the successful launch of Nissan's GTR and the kind of critical acclaim and press that car gets.

Slow your roll. I never claimed to be the authority. I used common sense. The LF-A concept came out before the Toyota FT-HS (2005 vs. 2007, respectively).
Evolution gets newer. The more recent pictures of the LF-A in the original post look more like the LF-A concept pics from 2005 (the ones that I posted). Don't believe me, check out the styling cues from the profile pics. The Toyota concept pics are from 2007. If your thought was the correct one, then it'd be more of a 'de-evolution', no? Also the other give-away is that the LF-A is badged with a Lexus emblem, where as in the pics, the FT-HS is badged with the Toyota emblem; to me that means the repsective marketing departments have made distinctive decision to start branding it if a producton platform were to be made from it. Japanese car companies just don't do that (...they don't brand the SSM a Honda and then release it as an Acura S2000).
I agree but add to that this: as an autophile, I've heard and read rumors that both cars may make it into their respective camps' lineups. The Toyota was suppose to have new-age electric motors tied into driving the front wheels, while a Japane big-block was to put down the hp to the rear (this was what Honda's HSC was supposed to have as well). I haven't heard if that hybrid drivetrain will make it to production or not.

As for you not claiming to be an authority, to me the tone of your posts suggested otherwise, perhaps that was unintentional. I'm happy to "slow my roll," I don't think this was worth starting an debate over to begin wtih. Some think this is the more likely candidate to serve as a Supra replacement, some don't. Either viewpoint is based on speculation and time will vindicate one, the other, or neither opinion

Or perhaps just saying "You're right, I don't know how I could have ever been so wrong" was the proper response
