technique is as follows:
1) total darkness preferred
2) good camera
3) 30 sec or more exposition
4) directional light

basically the guy pushes the trigger on the camera, and then runs around the car with the directional light sorta scanning the car. the camera pics out only the lit part of the car. Exactly like a scanner works, actually

you can see the light streak on the side of the car in the first pic

 

definitely very cool. i gotta try this technique someday
