Question Made a Custom Air Guide / Now Making Cooling Panel

UPDATE: 3/29/10
Air guide and the cooling panel are complete. Here are the final results:

Hey all, I got bored today and has some sheet metal laying around so decided to do something with it. Iv seen on this forum before somone made a small plate with litte guides on the sides to help direct air into the oem airbox, so decided to try and make my own. It was pretty simple to make.

First thing I did was make a cardboard layout of what I wanted.

After that, I layed the cardboard out flat all taped together and traced it onto the sheet metal.

I then Drilled the holes that were necessary and bent up the little side guides.

Test fit it on the car, and made sure it would clear the hood.

It all fit well so I used some 3M body moulding tape and got it mounted sturdy. I also forgot to drill the holes for to put the radiator mount back on, but the hole I made fits the peg thing sticking up out of the radiator so it doesnt move at all. It will be fine for right now. I also painted it suzuka, but its very windy today and a bunch of crap blew in it, so I wet sanded it some and put 1 more coat down and cleared it, but it came out really dark. Im going to sand it all down later and re-paint it to match good. The paint does match the car b/c I painted my lip with the same stuff, and matches really well. But here it is mounted and everything for now. Im not sure if it even makes a real difference, but ohh well!

Thanks man. Yeah an official DIY Thread is a pretty good idea. Im going ahead and starting my template for my cooling panel. If I dont finish tonight it might be a few days before I finish since its going to rain with high winds tomorrow. Then its going to be sunny again for the rest of the week. I wish I had a nice garage

Very well done! I did exactly the same exact thing over the winter, but used plastic instead. One word of advice: Relocate that loomed cable on the opposite side of the panel it's attached to. It will look even neater.
