to give Spoon their due credit (correct me if I'm wrong though), I think Tatsuru Ichishima raced his Honda Civic in the early 1970's. Spoon wasn't formed until 1988.

There is one Honda aftermarket company that predates Mugen. Backyard Special was racing Honda S600s back in the mid-60's.
