That isnt true. The beam IS a crumple structure as it is meant to deform at the mounting points, thereby not transmitting energy and damage to the unibody.
On the front it's true. On the rear it isn't. The crumple structure on the rear is the trunk and the welded in tool area. The trunk area will crumple prior to the heavy bumper beam.

Search in the gallery for rear end collisions (medium to moderate) impact where the trunk lid hasn't misaligned.

I'm not saying the trunk area was engineered to crumple before the bumper beam at the mounting points (I'm not sure either way), it just does.

In anycase, Mugen designs and engineers (or shall I say engineered) S2000 parts for (1) simplicity (not to introduce any more break points with the car that aren't already OEM), (2) Performance, and (3) Safety. For a bumper to be off-road/track use only, which the SS rear bumper is, I highly doubt that Mugen designed the rear bumper cover for aesthetic appeal only. They may have surmised that the rear bumper beam doesn't really do squat in a meaningful accident...which a driver/car has more chance of having a rear-facing impact.

...and btw, just to end the debate on this off-topic convo, let me just say, "You're right, I'm wrong....I don't know my car or the S2000 enough to argue on this matter."

JDM AP1 11, do you have any pics yet with the bumper cover on yet?? Hurry it up...the Mugenized thread needs you!

JDM Hondas don't come with rear bumper beams so don't think Mugen is retarded for not designing around it

Luder I totally agree with you, TJF is just stating what he thinks, oh well I could give 2 $shits about what he has to say to tell you the truth!

Mugen puts a lot of engineering into their products. They are not just for show. Anywayslike you said most Japanese and foreign cars don't have alot of the reenforcement we have here. Who cares!

My bumper should be ready at the end of the week. The body shop I took it to is overloaded with work. I been dreaming about putting the bumper on ever since the day I got it.

as mush as I do not care about mugen and the 1-2Hp increases their products provide, this exhaust bumper compo is the cleanest out there till date. nice choice!
