Swapping motors, and getting them legal isn't as difficult as a lot of people make it out to be. You just have to know what the rules are, and be thorough.

the hardest part of that swap is the headers clearing the firewall. since it needs to be carb approved it needs to maintain carb legal or oem headers. Long tube headers drop low enough for the firewall, but the shorty headers make for alot of complications

The engine is the reason to own the RX-7 imo, but its nice to have an LS engine in a car that can actually handle.
the LSx was the best thing to ever happen to the RX7.
