who said anything about having a show-car? theres nothing wrong with track use or getting on it.
track use and spirited driving have nothing to do with people being lazy and wearing their corrosive brake-dust on their rims like some type of badge of pride. theres no pride in a 3 year old vehicle looking 10, but when a 10 year old vehicle looks new, i think it's pretty sexy.
additionally, not waxing your car and keeping it dirty never looks good. sports car should be sleek/sexy/attractive/functional. i've yet to see f1/indy cars show up looking like they just got done running through mud at the start of a race.
so while i agree with your meaning that sports cars should be enjoyed, i disagree in what that means for the paint condition/rims/etc.

As you realize, I was speaking about cars that are kept in pristine condition, only because they are never used properly or even at all. THAT saddens me more than seeing one driving around "reasonably" dirty. Even the rich can occasionally get caught between a spot-causing rain or dirty road and a fresh car wash & wax. However, I can agree that nice cars still shouldn't be treated like trash and should be taken care of, but I can't even imagine how people could allow such things to happen, yet I've seen it many times before.
Moral of the story: If you own a nice car, drive it as you should, but still keep that baby clean!!
