Yep, those are lots of fun. Last year I raced a Birel R31 Motorsport Rotax. It was very fast. Watch out for your ribs. I managed to crack two at a 4-Day Jim Hall Kart School in CA and then 4 months later cracked one on the other side here in Dallas. And that was with the Ribtec Carbon seat and rib vest.
Are you going to join the NT Karters? Their track is good fun and they have a strong Rotax class. BTW, do they allow front brakes in Rotax now?

There's a video on youtube or streetfire that someone posted a long time ago that shows a go-kart zipping along city streets (not sure about the model of kart). It's a pretty good vid showing what these things can do.
