Speaking from 10 years of racing experience racing shoes make a ton of difference. Aside from the fire protection that some brands give, the allow for much better precision foot work. Its like the difference between wearing those big thermal insulated gloves and wearing latex gloves. I can really tell a difference using my Simpson shoes int he S2K verses wearing my tennis shoes, you have better clutch control (especially if you are maximum size for the S2K).
