Original S2000 Illustration
With the recent thread on this subject, I figured I post what I've been working on.
I've always like the limited edition sigs. I wouldn't think of stealing someone elses artwork, and I wanted something of my own design, with my own car and it's mods (Amuse front lip, ASA FR1, etc). I work in the graphic arts business and have been doing computer illustration with Adobe Illustrator for about 18 years. I've also taught Illustrator at the college level, but my profession is prepress technology. Artistically, this is really my only creative outlet I do for myself.
I started a few weeks ago from an original photo of my car.

I've got about 4 hours into this. The details will take another few hours. I'm not happy with some of the colors. I wasn't trying to match the photo exactly, but I used it as a guide for my own ideas. The car is 100% vector: only the drop shadow is raster (for now). I didn't use any gradient meshes either.

Naturally, there are some similarities to the S2Ki sigs (it's still an S2000, after all), but I used transparent gradients in my own style. The S2Ki sigs (who made these, btw?) are wonderfully simple, elegant, and sublime, but I had a different idea. My photo is also taken from a higher elevation and a narrower angle. My windshield looks awkwardly upright, but it's accurate to the photo. Again, I'm still a few hours from finishing it (by "finishing", I really mean "abandon")
I can't say that there was any purpose to drawing this illustration other than my artistic expression. I figured if it came out well, I'd make a sig out of it (I'm on a lot of message boards). After specialk22tt's post, I was intrigued by the polarized responses and wondered what people would think about my own unique artwork. The chinese character in the corner is my family name, and I use this as my signature, as in the oldest chinese tradition (yes, I'm asian). I'm also a paying member of S2Ki.
