Do you mind sharing what the shop charged for the install? I am currently in the same position as you (well not anymore, now that yours is fixed!) Would you rather me pm you about the price?
Price of softtop from topsonline.com, shipped to Kansas City: 463.71
Install of top by a reputable upholstery shop in KC: 930.53
Total: 1394.24
Now, I was quoted $800 in labor from the outset. But, upon removing my old top and various parts from the interior, I was missing 12 clips that over time prevent rattling underneath the well behind the seats. Those run $5-6.50 a piece from the dealer and I had to have those purchased and added to my total bill. Another location closer to where I live quoted me $700 for labor. However, their shop was messy and unorganized, and the gentleman giving me the estimate did not seem as 'warm and fuzzy' about cars as the location that actually performed my install. The installer who took care of the top chatted it up with me about cars and re-upholstering my seats, and seemed to be a genuine car enthusiast (someone who would care for my car as I do), so I paid the extra $100 to feel more comfortable with who was working on my car. They did a fabulous job and were wonderful about communicating with me during the process.

Glass top looks so much better!

My plastic window was probably in fabulous condition comparable to most, but maintaining one is a pain in the ass. Plus, IMO, the plastic window is too big for the car and doesn't flow with the car overall. The glass window looks like it belongs on the car in comparison to the plastic that looks really out of place.
I have four (yes four) holes about that size in my top.. i'm overdue too and also a top always down guy. It's hard to justify 1500 that could go towards something that makes you faster!
Congrats on the surgery though!

It was really hard for me to spend that much cash on the top when I so desperately want to slam the suspension before going to a low offset 17" wheel in 2010. It just had to be done though. I have a feeling I will be able to scrap together the cash for both by next year though.
I would love to part with the back window, but I don't have it. I allowed the shop to dispose of it as they so choose.
