Constructive criticism is one thing.. but people who trying to discourage his individuality should probably seek another outlet besides this forum. This isn't your car, and just because he decides to paint his wheels, doesn't all of a sudden drop the value of your s2k. If you have that big of a complex about your image, then you should probably find some professional help.
