The class they run in only allow oem aero, in japan the mugen top is available as an oem option and it has better aero than oem.

i supposed it'd be like pushing your car down from the middle compared to the back. it's easier to apply more downforce pressure when pressure is being applied near the end of the car compared to the middle.

In simple terms, it's called leverage.

For example, in '05 Formula One changed the regulation that forced the teams to mount their rear wing closer to the center of their car and closer to the rear wheels. The loss of leverage on the rear of the car from the rear wing's downforce was an attempt to slow the cars down. We see how well that worked.
