I didn't drill into my car. But there have been prolly 2 times while I was on the track that the snorkel portion movied over a little bit, and I had to move it back. But like you, I didn't want to drill into my car.

I don't think you have to worry about rubbing though, and painters tape would have to be replaiced often. Cause when you drive the engine bay will get really hot, and caues the tape residue to come off onto the intake making it a biotch to get off. Just close your hood, and gently press down on the hood where you intake site and see if its hitting anything.

there is a snorkel available for the Type S J's Kit which goes to the intake opening on the front bumper so the intake part of the snorkel is smaller than the original to fit into the bumper i believe.
you're talking about the shorter snorkel that goes to the Type S bumper vent.

saw the newer version J's intake that snorkel to the bottom of the vent a few days ago and it has a smaller opening. comparing to my old J's intake which is double the size

here is a pic of my snorkel opening, double the size:

Hey Sam, do you have a pic of the new J's openeing? Could it be that J's made it smaller to fit the 04 bumpers...that have a different opening?

it could just have something to do with how air flows into it and into the bumper, i'm sure there is a legitamite reason.
