Preview: Metallic Blue ASA AR1
I've been working on the car over winter (or what we call winter down here: waxed the car in shorts today). Pulled the front lip for a repaint, and other stuff for the upcoming Solo season (running behind: we're racing tomorrow). Anyway, I got a set of 17x8+45 ASA AR1 off eBay with massive 275/40-17 V710 with about 40-50% life left. They are pretty big and don't fit well on an 8" rim, but I am using them on my rear 17x9+63 ASA FR1 track wheels. With such big rubber on the car, I couldn't drop it much. They rub on bumps now (fenders are rolled), but I'm not driving on these wheels until I get narrower street rubber.
I don't have staggered wheels, but will stagger the tires (205F/245R) to help out. With stiffer front springs and my conservative street driving, I don't think it will be a problem. These are going to be my daily driver wheels.
The wheels were gloss black on polished lips, which are way overdone now (I see them on Camrys). I have one set of bronze AP1s, a set of flat black AP1s, and my FR1s are also flat black, so I wanted to change up the look. I narrowed it down to gunmetal, bronze, or (gasp) metallic blue. I spraying a couple wheels to test, and the blue came out way better than expected. I got some feedback and decided to go blue. You only live once, and I can repaint them later if I get bored or don't like the attention (you know us Spa drivers are attention-whores anyway). I masked and painted them myself, and put 5 coats of clear, which really made them richer and less annodized. I threw them on today for a couple shots: I've let them cure for two weeks. The pics have a hint of green in them, but it's from the low sun: they are actually more like a dark Laguna Blue. I also hand painted the fake rim bolts in bright silver (fun)

I'll do a better shoot once I'm done fixing it up in a couple months, but I wanted to share. I'm pleased with how they came out so far.

Car looks great BTW!
