S2000 Time Trial Battle...
It was not the original engine. It was a replacement from an 03' with 55K on it. I did about 10 events on it before it started to drink a lot of oil and feel low on power. 4 events later it developed a "piston slap" and had to be put to rest. I did not replace the oil banjo bolts and the retainers/valvetrain were the originals (I do frequent valve adjustments and everything was always kosher). This could have been an oil starvation issue, a cooling issue, or a fuel injector issue (or a combination of the three). In any case, I think it was more or less a fluke - simply the casualty of racing. Its a risk we take, right?
My original engine lasted nearly 40 events and probably would have lasted many more, but it was damaged when a very close friend miss-shifted the car. Thankfully, aforementioned "very close friend" financed the purchase of engine #2. Lets hope engine #3 is a keeper!
Also worth mentioning that all of my engines have been 100% stock with the only addition being a catch tank off the PCV.
