The only thing that turns me off about getting the STI wheels is that for the S, it's better to have a staggered set up. Am I the only one?

The gold STI BBS wheels would look good on me Berlina S though....if it wasn't for the non-staggered set up....

North Star is one of the ONLY one with a good post here... even though theoretically you can argue that the car is 50/50 in weight distribution.. not requiring a staggered setup. But the suspension is set up to work with a stagger.

Anyways, most of you out there seem to only like wheels if they cost $2500 and up per set. Ridiculous if you ask me. If someone comes up with a replica on their car you look at them as if they were cheap bastards who wouldn't ante up the required amount to be "cool"

Personally, I dig the set for originality and, once lowered, the car doesn't really look bad at all... you end up getting a premium quality wheel, by a premium manufacturer, for little money... I see it as a bargain.

put a stiffer swaybar on the car, and it will be fine with a non-staggered setup. I have friends that run the same width tires all around for autoX without issues.

These wheels aren't hard to find for $1k with decent tires on them. Browing the subaru forums, there is a set in VA going for $800 picked up...

If I remember right, somewhere in that thread it says that he's going to get the rears widened so he can run the staggered setup.

Can you do that with already forged wheels??? Interesting if you can, and in taht case, sign me up for Gold BBS wheels!!!

Thanks jsalicru! I used to have a WRX, so I'll always be in love with Subaru's!

wheels weigh 19lbs.

The hub bore is smaller for the STi, so you will have to get it enlarged. The wheels are 17x8 +53. I found 2 sets for $1k each with almost new tires. The stock sti tires are Potenza RE070s, which as kickass in the dry, but a bit lacking in water.
how hard is it to enlarge the hub bore? did u have them done? what about the hubcentric rings? anything else we need to know about?

The STi hub bore is 56.1mm, while the s2000 has 70.3mm in the front and 64.1mm in the back. So... you are going to probably want to enlarge all 4 wheels to 70.3mm, and then have a concentric spacer made to accomidate the smaller hub bore in the rear.

I was going to have a set converted, but I never got around to it, and my wife wanted to keep all of the wheels to herself.

You should be able to find a machine shop that can enlarge the hub bore for you. It isn't that difficult of a task.

The S2000 comes with staggered wheels, and it's handling could be characterized as mild understeer. Non staggered wheels and a bigger front sway bar will make for a neutral handling car that is even more fun to drive. Why are so many people intent on staying staggered? Try something new and you might find it to be more your liking. I think the STI wheels are an awesome bargain as well. 17x8's with 245's all around would be a blast!

Nice avatar

I agree with you on the 245s all around, and I think that there won't be any issues with them. I would imagine that you can even go wider than that with the +53 offset, as long as you do a bit of rolling on the front fenders. My wife is running 275/40-17 v710s on one of her sets of stock wheels.

Rota sells 17x8 +48 wheels with a larger hub bore, and they are around $700 for a set. They are the slipstreams in the above picture, on the far right.
