Default S2KI Member gallery updates

For those who don't follow the goings on (bitching generally) in Site Info forum I've recently made a fairly significant update to the S2KI Gallery.

There are a few new features:

- EXIF information decoding and display
- Quick avatar change to any of your gallery images

but mainly it's a significant cleanup and twice over to make it far easier and more enjoyable to navigate around and the multi-image upload (called Bulk Upload now) was totally rewritten and works great now.

I've added an additional 1000GB RAID disk array and increased the thumbnail size to 200 pixels. There are still a few things left to be done before I leave it to work on the next update of the forums (v5): Windows XP Web Publishing Wizard (Publish this folder to the web) support for image uploads (almost done, just testing) and better moderation controls to let a Gallery administrator create, move and delete various main gallery categories and albums.

If you haven't used it much give it a try. You can get to your personal albums from the top of the main Gallery index page and you can also browse the images of other members from there.

I'm looking for someone to help me out in managing the Gallery, organizing and arranging sort of thing. If you use the Gallery much let me know.

Did you know? Members can upload images directly to the main Gallery.

100Mbps of photo fun!

Yes, still need help but I need to complete a few functions a gallery whatchamacallit, curator?, will need. It simple stuff really like move 500x380 pixel images OUT of the wallpaper section (for my cell phone maybe!) plus I think the categories suck as they are so we should think of a new way to organize the photos but mainly it's being an advocate of using the gallery.

Speaking of cell phones does anyone have interest in MMS uploads from your phone to your albums? Since nobody is actually doing it yet I don't know how much it would get used.

Awesome!! Does the bulk upload still have a limit on it like the previous multiuploader did?

Yes still a limit but that limit is a lot higher (50MB vs 8MB before). The bulk transfer needs to take place within 600 seconds or be less than 50MB (whichever comes first). This is a limitation of the web server configuration that I can't change much without causing issues in other places.

You can repeatedly drop files onto the bulk upload popup however so if you have a large or a large number of uploads to do you can do part of them and when it's complete do another part. You don't have to close that popup window and reopen it, just drop on a new set.

How long it takes to upload 50MB from your PC to the servers is anybody's guess. You'll need to experiment to see if you can actually upload 50MB in 600 seconds (10 minutes for the mathematically challenged). A 56K modem will max out at about 35MB so as long as you have a network upload speed of over 100Kbps you should be able to transfer 50MB at a time.
