Thanks for all the comments everyone.

Here's a tutorial that shows the basic steps of how to illustrate a car: link. I spend a little more time on gradients to get everything looking smooth, and I also use some raster (non-pen tool) work to get the effect I'm looking for (in this case, the wheel spokes and Rob's head were done with airbrushing). However, I'd estimate 95% of this illustration was done with the pen tool.

My sig is another example of what you can do with the same style.
