I remember reading the origin of that picture with the "shark." If you look close enough you can notice that the rear end fin is not vertical (like a shark's would be) but actually horizontal making it a dolphin

yea I also have read somewhere that that "shark" picture is not actually a shark. I don't remember if they were saying it was a photochop or if it was just a dolphin

I think the sharks a dolphin from the body of it.... i'm no marine biologist... but i think sharks have a tail flipper/fin thats verticle... looks like the pic is of one thats horizontal like a dolphin *shrug*.

No lie... I've had a dolphin jump outa the water at least ten feet up and land aout five feet away while I was waiting for a set to come in. The water hit my face so hard it felt like I got bitch-slapped by Tyson. When I came in after my ride people on the shore were asking me if I got hit and if I was ok. It musta looked crazy cause I got knocked off my board.

I should post this in the "Most embarrassing moments" thread. . . but I really did think it was a shark on first sight. Honestly, the pointed nose and dorsal fin look shark-like. The tail fin does look horizontal on closer look, though, so I guess it is a dolphin. . .

So the embarrassing thing is that I have an undergrad degree in Biology with a focus on Aquatic Biology (not marine mammals, though). I will say, it still does look shark-like in the picture. I should be able to tell the difference though. OK, no more excuses from me. Stupid dolphin. Scary shark. Whatever.
