In Support of Our Troops
Last Friday was the "Red Friday Rally" at CFB Gagetown in Oromocto, NB. It was a huge event that was aimed at raising money for the Military Family Resource Centre at CFB Gagetown in support of the deployment of more then 1100 troops headed to Afghanistan later this month.
Myself and one of my co-workers were put in charge of designing and laying out a huge Canadian Flag, so that 5000 people could create the largest human Canadian flag ever. The flag was to be the size of a football field, roughly 300' x 150'. We started by finding a suitable template for the flag, and creating a 3' x 3' grid over it and coordinating each intersection in the grid. We then went to the site and put a wooden stake at every 30' foot intersection for a total of over 150 stakes. We then tied color coordinated survey ribbon around the different shapes in the flag, so to connect the dots, so that people would know where to stand. A local radio station FredFM was in charge of coordinating the event and telling people where to stand. Each person held a 2' x 2'. The event was a great success and I'm sure some of you heard about it on the news or have seen photos of it.
Here is one photo of the event that I finished in Adobe Photoshop CS.
