Thinmint Tail Light Mod
Hey guys!
Just wanted to show you something I did to my s2000 which still isn't finished!
Basically I feel like the stock Ap1 tail lights are really ugly and are about as cool and interesting as a wet carrot. Since I blew all my funds on my electric conversion, I don't have enough money to justify purchasing some Ap2 tails. Therefore I decided to make my own!
I purchased a pair of tail lights for cheap since they didn't have clear lenses ( thanks Jordanksartell!)
Once I got them, I removed the plastic red / white lenses , and measured the pockets they had previously inhabited using some calipers. I don't remember what size they were, but if anyone is interested PM me and I will go find it.
Anyway, I then ordered some red angel eyes with an outer diameter equal to the diameter of the pockets. Im sure the sellers on Ebay were happy I bought them, because I doubt anyone would want to put these in their head lights -____- , way too red!
A couple of weeks later, POW at my door.

I then cut out some plexiglass to the diameter of the rings, painted one side black, and glued the rings to the plexi. I did this because without a black piece plastic backing, you would be able to see the metallic silver paint in the pockets. Ill get some pictures of these tomorrow.
Wire them up really quick...

As you can see, the tail light is no longer a wet carrot.
*applause*
"great job thinmint!"
thanks guys!!
There still are a couple of kinks to work out. For one, the way the tail lights work is by using a double filament bulb. So one filament is on at all times, the other illuminates when braking. I want both rings on at the same time.
Another problem is that I don't want to botch up the job by adding a white ring / yellow ring for reverse and turning. I don't know about reverse yet, but for turning the (red) lights will blink simultaneously, rather than yellow turn indicator. The good news is that I have ordered all the components necessary, so now I just wait for the chinese postal service to do its thing...
I'll update this thread tomorrow with some more details / links / pics
Yeee
