Since I don't have a digi SLR yet (no legacy lenses) I'm really leaning towards the XT. I like the form factor and it'll be a lot better than I'm capable of actually shooting yet as a newbie to SLR photography/manual control.
You can always save a little cash and pick up a used Digital Rebel (300D) for like 400-500 dollars then learn on that. By the time you're ready to upgrade to a XT or a 20D, they will be significantly cheaper in price.

[QUOTE=phidong,Mar 18 2005, 05:50 PM] I'd like to see some proof that the 20D can barely keep up with motorsports.

I never had problems with the 20D. No USM?

Sounds like we need a photo contest.

Okay, I win.

And I'm not talking about drifting, the motorsports equivalent of figure skating. I'm talking about shooting cars that are actually moving fast.

think of the 350XT as the equal of canon 20d without 5fps and 9point AF...

wouldn't you agree guys?

besides, it doesn't make THAT much of a big difference to a noice shooter.

Proof? You mean other than I own a 20D and use it heavily for motorsports photography and have to alter my technique in order to compensate for a slight delay in focus tracking in AI Servo mode? Why would 7 points versus 9 matter in servo mode? You're supposed to shoot using the center point only. Sounds like you have a thing or two to learn, kid.

Every pro I know that uses a Canon for motorsports uses a 1D or 1DmkII.

Do you own a 20D? Do you own an S2000, for that matter? They'll just let anyone in here, apparently. Too much riff raff.
Sounds like you're the one making contradictory statements.

Damn Phi!

Wow Phi, I think all those cars are moving very slow. There's no way they could be fast... No way!!! Dude, the brakes are red. That must mean it's SLOW! I didn't know JGTC cars had LEDs wired onto their brake rotors!!! Too cool.
