not entirely true if you watch the touge battles the mgtr cant beat the re amemiya rx-7(blue one ver 6 i think) and it only has 380 hp so its not so much about straightline as it is as average lap speed. just look at the third place rx-7 he got passed by 2 cars at the beginning but was on the front row for a reason.
