just got a new digital with a 128 meg card...
so i could shoot higher quality res photos. (i noticed that at 8 x 10 i was getting too much image distortion at lower quality settings).
at the highest quality setting, i still dont get many photos!
at the next to the highest quality i can get 60 photos on this card.
do you shoot at different quality settings depending on what you are shooting?
or if you shoot at the same setting, which do you use?
I have a 4MP (Kodak LS443) and I shoot at maximum resolution all the time. As soon as I want to do something with the image I open it up in PhotoShop and change the resolution for the specific printing need. I always keep a 128 in the camera and carry a few 64s.
If I'm going to post here, I end up throwing away a lot of the image data to scale it down to a reasonable size.
I believe I scaled this one down only 80% because I wanted to keep it big.
Really depends not what you are shooting, but what your output media will be.
If you plan on posting pictures on-line or in a web site, even a megapixel is complete overkill. If you plan on printing your most liked images to 5x7, 8x10 or greater, then yes, shoot at maximum resolution all the time.
I find my 128MB card does great with my typical 1MB resolution quality. If I'm shooting pictures for "art", I'll use my Leica.
thx pfb... but what if you are just shooting and dont know the purpose? (vacation photos, for example)
i assume that if i shoot at high res, i can still use the photo for web posting, and can also print at 8 x 10 ... (i guess web posting would hog bandwidth though), but if i shoot at low res, then i cant print 8 x 10 (which is what started this whole thing!).
