what you ganna do.....?
Maryland state police used to use a similar prop. It was a "sign" in the shape of the side view that was painted and labeled with the identical decals as the typical state trooper Crown Vic. It was actually a 3-D form rather than a flat sign. Absolutely convincing until you were close enough to realize it was only the side of the car.
The first time I saw one I was going back to school after a break and was about to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge going west (must have been 1998 or '99). I was going at a pretty good clip and my stomach immediately sank.
Then I quickly realized that the cop wasn't going anywhere cause his car was pinned between two guard rails (car was parked in the median perpendicular to the road). My next thought was he was clocking people and his buddy up the road was pulling them over.
A few seconds later (while trying to figure out how he got his car in there in the first place) I felt the like the butt of a joke as I found out it was just a sign.

Anyway, I imagine it's cheaper than the methods that South Carolina highway patrol uses. They just leave a whole damn cruiser in the middle of the highway. Last year, they put one just behind some trees (where they used to sit sometimes anyway) just before Labor Day weekend. IT WAS THERE FOR AT LEAST THREE WEEKS! Camden, SC puts this really ridiculous looking ancient Ford Taurus painted to look like a cruiser on various routes into the town and then they stick this 'tarded looking dummy inside (a real dummy, not just a dumb cop
) that's always looking up at the roof of the car.
