why mugen why!
What's funny is that back in 2000 and 2001 when the Mugen SS and the AP aero parts first came out, the comments were strikingly similar to what's being said in this thread about the new Mugen designs.
What's different is that the SS and AP were designed within the parameters of enhancing performace and function at speed (function over form).
There were a handful of us that saw those pieces as utterly beautiful right from the get-go (no need to warm up to the mods).
On the other hand with this new design, it looks like the folks over at Mugen are just trying to get "creative". In fact, their product line has so much more cosmetic enhancement pieces than I could ever remember (I've been following Mugen racing developement since 1991). I like the idea that they tried something new...maybe to help Honda develop what the next gen S2k may/could look like (it has a sort of a Saturn Sky quality to it).
I think Mugen's business model is evolving...they seem to be more in it for the money (hence the reason to partner with Honda North America to build 500 Mugen Civic Si for dealer delivery).
Unfortunately, I think Mugen may be going down the path of limitations (no longer "unlimited"). Is that when they phase out the "Mugen" name and meaning and start being known solely as M-Tec?
