i think i remember on top gear when jeremy was test driving the viper, if you drive it pretty hard, the exhaust tailpipes on the side will ignite the plastic around it. i bet thats what happened.

ever put your feet right at the tip of the side exhaust on the viper while it revs? feels almost like a heat gun.
